Managing electronic resources, which are a significant part of the law library's collection, can be a complex process. Library staff must acquire, promote, assess, and track resources, justify them in budgets, and ensure that access is as seamless as possible. Through facilitated roundtable discussions, this program will allow participants to share and learn from others in areas such as curating the institution’s electronic resources collection throughout its life cycle, troubleshooting and access issues, marketing and awareness of resources, and the changing role of the electronic resources librarian.

Target Audience:

Based on a well-attended discussion den on managing electronic resources at the 2023 Annual Meeting in Boston, we expect this program will be of interest to library directors and managers, librarians responsible for maintaining electronic resources, and other librarians who want to understand the purpose and processes of electronic resources management or who may be interested in moving into a similar role.

This program is co-sponsored by the Technical Services SIS (TS-SIS) and the Private Law Librarians & Information Professionals SIS (PLLIP-SIS).

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to apply knowledge gained from colleagues to challenges and procedures in key areas of electronic resources management at their organizations.
Participants will be able to create a network of other librarians who utilize the same systems or tools for electronic resources management or who experience similar issues, allowing them to be proactive with brainstorming and resolving issues.
Participants will be able to define the role of electronic resources management and the objectives of the electronic resources librarian in the overall organization.
