It is important for managers to understand neurodivergent employees and their specific needs in the workplace. By creating a welcoming environment for neurodivergent employees, managers demonstrate to patrons, including students, that their law library is a safe space for different types of thinkers. This program will discuss neurodivergent strengths, the legal and policy frameworks of accommodations for neurodivergent employees, how to manage individual and team expectations when individual needs differ, and best practices in employee accommodations in law libraries.

Target Audience:

Law librarians of all experience levels, responsibility areas, and library types will benefit from this program because all librarians interact with colleagues, students, and patrons who are neurodiverse. However, librarians who supervise employees are most encouraged to attend.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will distinguish the strengths of their neurodivergent employees to help those employees succeed in the law library work environment.
Participants will analyze the legal and policy frameworks of accommodations for neurodivergent employees, with a focus on how they can best design and carry out the accommodations for their neurodivergent employees in their respective law libraries.
Participants will develop the judgment necessary to manage individual and team expectations when individual needs differ.
